2010 "PURPLE HEART" INTERNATIONAL PRONE MATCH

This year's match will honor veterans wounded while serving their country by donating all proceeds to the Santa Jose chapter of the Disabled American Veterans organization.

Match Summary: This match is modeled after the 300 meter prone match shot in international competition. It consists of three twenty shot stages (60 total record shots) shot at 200 yards from the prone position.

Date: Saturday, May 29th, 2010. Registration and squadding, 0800 to 0830. Match starts 0900.

Location: Santa Clara County Field Sports Park 200 yard Range. FSP Waiver Verification ‘yellow card’ required to compete. (Available the day of the match)

Squadding: Match is limited to 2 relays of 17 shooters. Relay and target assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis the day of the match. Competitors wishing to shoot multiple classes may sign up on a space available basis after the close of regular registration.

Course of fire:

Stage 1: Three minute preparation period and five minutes for unlimited sighters. (For the record stages a preparation period is incorporated into the shooting period)

Stage 2: Twenty record shots prone, single round load in 25 minutes.

Stage 3: Twenty record shots prone, single round load in 25 minutes.

Stage 4: Twenty record shots prone, single round load in 25 minutes.

Match: Aggregate of stages two through four.

Each relay will ‘shoot through’ the 4 stages of the match. Competitors are required to assist with the preparation, posting, and scoring of targets for the alternate relay.

Classes of Rifles:

  • F-Class Open – Any scoped rifle fired from a rest, per NRA rules.

  • F-Class TR – Scoped rifle in .223 or .308 caliber, fired from a bipod, per NRA rules.

  • Match Rifle - Rifles with metallic sights, fired with sling support only, per NRA rules. Rifles are not required to be repeaters.

  • Service Rifle - AR15, M1A, and match prepped M1 Garand rifles, meeting NRA and/or CMP service rifle regulations.

  • Vintage Rifle - World War II era, and earlier, rifles with original type sights. Telescopic sights are allowed on rifles in ‘as issued’ configuration only, ie M1-C/D Garands, Springfield 03-A4, etc. Rifles may be fired with sling support, or from a front sandbag/pack rest at the shooters discretion.

30 caliber maximum in all classes except vintage rifle. No muzzle brakes allowed per NRA rules. No armor piercing or tracer ammunition allowed.

Targets:

  • 300 Meter International target, scaled to 200 yds, will be used for the Match, Service, and Vintage rifle classes. F-Class shooters will shoot on a special ½ scale target. This target will include a sighting bull that may be used for each stage.

Awards: There will be separate awards for the top finishers in each class of rifle.

Food: A BBQ will be held immediately after the match.
